Description

Purpleheart wood comes to us from the rainforests of Central and South America, primarily Brazil, Suriname and Guyana.  Purpleheart is one of the denser, stronger blanks available so it takes it’s toll on my chisels but the result is well worth the effort.  It’s natural luster is very high and turning the pen shows veins of high iridescence making this pen sparkle as it is moved.  The wood itself is greyish-purple tending towards red but prolonged exposure of unfinished wood will gradually change the color to an obvious purple and eventually to a light violet.  This is caused by UV rays, heat and exposure to Oxygen.  The finish on this pen will protect it from UV rays and Oxygen but the heat of your hand while using it will slowly shift the color under the most used parts.  Very cool.
